BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Saturday said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has exposed the government's “blueprint” for the next polls through his comment that their party's victory is just a formality.
"The government has made a blueprint for holding the next polls without opposition as it did on January 5, 2014. A ruling party leader yesterday (Friday) said their victory is now mere a formality. This means the polls have already been held as per their blueprint and only a gazette notification is left," he said.
Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader further said: "He [Quader] disclosed it impulsively what we've long been suspecting. We would like to clearly say that people won't let you (govt) implement your blueprint."
Nagorik Odhikar Andolon, a pro-BNP platform, organised the program at National Press Club, demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
On Friday, Obaidul Quader told reporters that their party's victory is just a formality since the country's people are very happy over their government's development work.
Moudud, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, said their party's popularity is continuously increasing as the government has kept Khaleda in jail in a “politically motivated false” case.
He alleged that the government is hatching various plots to prolong the BNP chairperson's release from jail.
The BNP leader, however, hoped that Khaleda will walk out of jail soon and democracy will be restored in the country.
Recalling that Awami League president Sheikh Hasina described caretaker government formula as her brainchild in i996, Moudud said the ruling party has forgotten that it imposed hartals for 174 days, set fire to petrol pumps, many vehicles and killed many people to force then BNP government to accept its demand.
He said Awami League is now resorting to lies and unethically opposing the election-time neutral government in fear of losing power.
Moudud said the fall of the current “autocratic” government is now a matter of time as no despotic government across the world could stay in power for a long time.
