Moudud: Bangladesh needs to get rid of terrible conditions

BNP senior leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said people of the country are living in miserable conditions even though Bangladesh is graduating from the group of least developed countries (LDCs). “Bangladesh is a developing nation, but roads all over the country submerge even in a light shower, forcing us to use boats to move around. The infestation of mosquitoes is uncontrollable, and gridlock is unbearable. At first we need to get rid of these terrible conditions before making the claim that we are a developing nation,” he said. A member of BNP’s Standing Committee, Moudud made the remarks on Friday, while addressing a discussion event organized by Bangladesh Youth Forum at National Press Club in Dhaka. About the arrest of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal President Shafiul Bari Babu, he said: “The way he was detained is very upsetting.  The government must not behave this way. “Over 4,000 BNP leaders and activists have been detained over the last one and a half months. And hundreds of activists are being held every day without any warrant or reason.” Moudud expressed his hopes that BNP chief Khaleda Zia would be released on bail next week. Among others, Bangladesh Youth Forum President Md Saidur Rahman addressed the event presided over its adviser MA Bashar. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
