BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday alleged that a huge number of police, including plain-clothes men, had been deployed in front of party chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan residence in Dhaka, as the government has “indulged in a dangerous game.”
“We have information that a good number of law enforcement officials, including those from the Detective Branch, have taken position in front of our party chairperson’s Gulshan residence. We don’t know the exact reason behind it,” he told at a press briefing.
He also said it was clear now that the government had initiated “a dangerous game,” taking various repressive steps sensing its “fall.”
He also alleged that police arrested over a hundred leaders and activists of their party and its associate bodies on Wednesday on their chairperson’s way to and from a special court in Bakshibazar, Dhaka.

Besides, he said, the law enforcement members charged baton on their party men as they were returning from the court with Khaleda Zia, leaving at least 50 activists injured.
Rizvi said though they earlier booked International Convention City, Bashundhara for the BNP National Executive Committee's meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday, the authorities cancelled it later following “pressure” from the government.
He said they would hold the meeting at another venue the same day. “We will disclose the venue on due course.”
The top BNP leader said they would start distributing invitation cards to the committee’s members on Thursday.
