Rizvi: People are worried about the upcoming DNCC elections

BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that people in the country are worried about the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor by-election. “Any election under the present government means violation of voters' rights. Still, we are participating in the local government polls to keep democracy alive,” he said. The BNP leader held a press conference held at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Monday afternoon. Rizvi also alleged no local elections held under the present Election Commission has been free or fair. “The present Election Commission has failed to prove its neutrality since it is working for the government,” he said. Referring to 2015 DNCC and 2014 general elections, he said that people's voting rights were not respected in either elections. The DNCC mayor's post fell vacant on December 1 after the death of Annisul Huq. BNP leaders Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Abdus Samad Azad,Taiful Islam Tipu, Monir Hossain, Aminul Islam and others attended the press conference. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
