Khaleda: 32 fake cases to harass me

The 32 cases that have been filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia are false and baseless, aimed at harassing her, the BNP chief alleged on Thursday. “It is crystal clear to the people that each case that has been filed against me is false and I am being subjected to harassment through these cases because I am still active in politics. The cases have been filed because the ruling party considers me as the biggest threat to them. At the same time, all cases against Sheikh Hasina have been withdrawn,” she said before a special court set up in Bakshibazar Madrasa premises in Dhaka. Presenting her defence testimony in two graft cases before the court, Khaleda further said: “If there were any irregularities or violation of law in the trust, then cases could have been filed under the Trust Act. How can the Anti-Corruption Commission lodge cases about it? Does it fall under their jurisdiction?

“We are not afraid of such fake and baseless cases. Our concern is that the way of getting justice has been destroyed in the country.” Reiterating that the press had no freedom in the country, Khaleda said: “They [the journalists] are afraid of broadcasting the real scenario due to excessive pressure from the government.” Khaleda delivered the fourth part of her defence testimony in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases before a special court yesterday. The next date of hearing has been fixed on November 23.The article was first published on Bangla Tribune
