British MP Charlie Elphicke suspended over ‘serious allegations’

MP Charlie Elphicke has been suspended by UK's Conservative Party following “serious allegations,” which have been referred to the police, said the party's new Chief Whip Julian Smith. According to BBC, the 46-year-old, who is married with two children, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. In a Twitter post, he wrote: “The party tipped off the press before telling me of my suspension. I am not aware of what the alleged claims are and deny any wrongdoing."According to BBC, the party, however, has not provided any further detail about the allegations concern, or reveal who had made the complaint. Amid the Westminister sexual harassment scandal, such allegations against another politician grows unstable. Following the resignation of Sir Micheal Fallon as defence secretary earlier this week, after allegations of sexual abuse in Parliament, and the investigation of Labour MPs Clive Lewis and Kevin Hopkins raises further tension. Furthermore, the Conservative Party has published a new code of conduct for the MPs and other elected representatives, since Labour introduced a new complaints procedure. Charlie Elphicke has represented Dover since 2010, and was also a junior whip for a brief period of time till 2016.
