AL leaders: Ill motives behind CJ’s statement

Several central leaders of Awami League have claimed the statement made by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Friday has ill motives behind it. Speaking on the issue, Awami League Presidium member Abdur Razzak told the Bangla Tribune: “The ill motives of the chief justice became clear after he gave the written statement right before leaving Dhaka for Australia. His statement is disappointing, and will bring further unrest. “Surendra Kumar Sinha wrote in his leave application that he is ill, his current statement contradicts his own words,” he added. Awami League Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate SM Rezaul Karim said: “The chief justice cited health complications in his application to the president for leaving the country. He was granted leave of absence because of his application, not because of any political reasons. “Surendra Kumar Saha’s illness is certainly ill, because he had visited ICDDR,B for treatment. He also mentioned his illness in his application for leave,” said Rezaul. Meanwhile, Awami League Presidium member Abdul Matin said: “the statement made by the chief justice is disappointing.” Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq told the Bangla Tribune: “I have yet to see the written statement, so I will not comment on the matter at this time.” Commenting on the matter, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif said: “We must find out if anyone else is behind the statement given by Surendra Kumar Sinha.” It is no be noted that Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha gave a written statement to the media at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday, while he was leaving Dhaka for Australia. Surendra said in the statement: “The prime minister is upset with me, after a certain quarter inside the government gave her a false representation of my verdict.
