BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in London with her family members, after which she plans to fly back to Bangladesh on September 15.
The 20-party alliance chief went to London for eyes and knees treatment on July 15. Earlier this month, doctors of Moorfields Eye Hospital completed surgery successfully.
Party sources said that Khaleda will be celebrating Eid with her son Tarique Rahman and his family. Khaleda’s younger son, late Arafat Rahman's wife and their two daughters will also be joining in the celebrations.
During her UK visit, Khaleda attended several meetings with political leaders, international political parties and leaders of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said party insiders. She discussed Bangladesh's current political situation as well as the party's next moves before the upcoming election.
A top BNP leader from United Kingdom unit, requesting anonymity, told the Dhaka Tribune that the BNP chief also met with her main political ally, the top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami. Tarek and Khaleda also discussed about the next election and alliance policies with Jamaat leaders.
During her tour, BNP committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and several other top leaders accompanied her.
Before she boarded from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, she asked the people of the country to pray for her.
She also directed the party members to finish all the pending work in preparation for the upcoming election, including recruitment and district level visits, said BNP Vice-Chairman Mohammad Shahjahan.
BNP chairperson's press wing official Sairul Kabir Khan told the Dhaka Tribune about Khaleda Zia’s return to Bangladesh, after Eid.
