Khaleda: No room for militancy in Islam

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called upon Islamic scholars in the country to spread the message among people that there is no room for terrorism and militancy in Islam.

Mentioning that Islam is a religion of peace, she said: “There is no place for militancy and terrorism in Islam. However, a vested quarter is running militant activities in the country in the name of our religion.

“Please stay alert and keep the common people away from such activities.”

The BNP chief made the call while addressing a programme of Islami Oikya Jote, the party that recently quit the BNP-led 20-party alliance, in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

Seeking cooperation from the religious leaders to eliminate militancy and terrorism from the country, Khaleda said: “Please publicise the message that Islamic teachings do not support terrorism and take necessary step against those engaged in subversive activities in the name of Islam.”

“Restore the global image of Islam by spreading the real teachings of the religion among the followers,” she added.
