The Ganashanhati Andolon has staged a protest against the government’s decision to increase railway fare and electricity price.
Speakers at Tuesday’s rally in Dhaka said the decision is against people's interest.
Ganashanhati Andolon chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said, “The government is hiking railway fares and electricity price to pick-pocket the countrymen. Railway fares were hiked just one year ago despite a global slump in oil prices. The latest proposal shows how desperate the government is to loot the people,”
Ganashanghati's central executive committee member Abul Hasan Rubel, who presided over the event, said railway was a cheap mode of transportation. “Everyone who came to power since independence was focused on looting and endangered the sector in the process.”
Ganashanhati Andolon’s central executive committee members Firoz Ahmed, Bacchu Bhuiyan, Taslima Akhtar, Julahasnain Babu and Student’s Federation president Saikat Mollik, among others, spoke at the rally.
