City Awami League acting president MA Aziz dies

Dhaka City Awami League's acting president MA Aziz has passed away at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was 68.

"Aziz died of heart attack at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DMCH at about 12 noon," BSS quoted Publicity and Publication Secretary of Dhaka City AL Abdul Haque Sobuj.

He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning with chest pain.

Aziz left behind wife, three sons, host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

President, PM mourns MA Aziz's death

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed deep shock at the death of MA Aziz.

In a condolence message, the president said that the contribution of M A Aziz to Bangladesh would be ever remembered.

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Aziz and conveyed sympathy to members of his bereaved family.

In her condolence message, the PM said Awami League has lost a dedicated and tested leader in his death.

Recalling his invaluable contribution to the party, Sheikh Hasina said the role, MA Aziz played in reorganising Dhaka city AL after the brutal assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, was endless.

"The nation will ever remember with deep respect his courageous role during the War of Liberation as well as in the struggle for establishing democracy in the country," she said.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
