BNP Standing Committee Member Dr RA Gani was laid to rest at Banani Graveyard yesterday.
He was buried beside his late wife’s grave around 4:15pm after his third and final Namaz-e-Janaza at the Parliament’s South Plaza.
Relatives, BNP leaders and activists joined the burial of Gani, also a former state minister for science and technology.
Dr RA Gani died at Square Hospital early yesterday at the age of 89.
He was admitted to the hospital on January 6 as he fell ill and complained of respiratory problems. He had been on life support since Wednesday.
Gani’s body was taken to his Dhanmondi residence from the Square Hospital mortuary in the morning to enable his family members, relatives, party colleagues and well-wishers to pay their last respect to him.
His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque after Jum’a prayers and then taken to Nayapaltan BNP central office.
The second janaza for Gani was held in front of the BNP office around 2:30pm, participated by leaders and activists of BNP and 20-party alliance.
After the janaza, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with party standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Tariqul Islam and Nazrul Islam Khan, one behalf of the party, placed wreaths on the late party leader’s coffin.
Later, his body was brought the Parliament’s South Plaza for the third and final janaza. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.
Family sources said the qulkhawani of late Dr RA Gani will be held on Tuesday evening at his Dhanmondi residence.
