Indictment hearing deferred against Fakhrul, 40 others

A Dhaka court yesterday deferred for the eighth time the charge framing hearing against 41 leaders and activists of the BNP, including its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a violence case.

Judge Ruhul Amin of Dhaka Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court fixed March 30 for the hearing following time petitions from 19 accused in the case.

Defence counsels of Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas, Moudud Ahmed, Amanullah Aman, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny, Barkatullah Bulu, Moazzem Hossain Alal and 12 other accused men submitted time petitions before the court as they could not appear because of different reasons.

However, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Abdullah Al Noman among 11 others accused appeared before the court during the hearing yesterday.

Meanwhile, the same court also issued arrest warrants against rest of the 11 accused including BNP leader Azizul Bari Helal, Mamun Hasan and Chhatra Dal leader Ishak Sarker as they did not appear before the court.

The case was filed with Ramna police station under Explosives Substances Act for torching a vehicle in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College during BNP’s agitation programme on March 2, 2013.

Later, Sub-inspector Deepak Kumar Pal, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted  charge sheet against 41 people from the BNP on July 5, 2014.
