The government will shut down the tanneries in the capital’s Hazaribagh area if their owners fail to relocate those to Savar Tannery Estate within 72 hours.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu instructed the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation (BSCIC) to send legal notices to the owners and close down their tanneries if they fail to shift those to Savar within the given time, said a handout of the ministry.
At a meeting held at his ministry’s conference room, he also asked the BSCIC to cancel allocation of Savar estate’s plots against names of the defaulted owners after the 72 hours.
Amu sat in the parley with the project directors and the chiefs of the agencies concerned for evaluating the progress of different projects undertaken for development of the country’s industrial sector.
