Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to return to the politics of democracy.
He made the call while addressing a rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital's Gulistan area on Tuesday evening, marking January 5 as Democracy Protection Day.
Indicating Khaleda, he said: “Stop this destructive politics and come back to the politics of democracy.”
Ashraf said: “The people of the country did not forget the destructions made by Khaleda and her party men that began since January 5, 2014.
“And for this reason, the mass people boycotted them and they witnessed massive defeat in the recent municipal elections.”
However, the ruling party leader thanked the BNP chief for participating in the election and asked her party to take part in the next national election which will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership.
