Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the BNP had sunk in political quicksand after it had destroyed democracy in the country.
“The election held on January 5 in 2014 was the continuity of democratic process in the county but BNP boycotted it,” he said
The minister came up with this comment while speaking at the 68th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra league, the student front of the ruling Awami League, held at the base of the Oparajeyea Bangla on the Dhaka University campus.
Quader, also a former BCL president, as a chief guest inaugurated the BCL founding anniversary rally by releasing pigeons in the open sky.
The minister urged BCL activists to be more attentive in the study to strengthen the hands of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina to fight against communalism and extremism.
Citing continuous success of PM Sheikh Hasina, Quader said that the World Bank wanted to term Bangladesh the nation of thieves but our prime minister has proved that the Bangladesh is a nation of heroes through the successful launching of the Padma bridge constructions.
“The PM sheikh Hasina will also inaugurate the four-lanes Dhaka-Chittagong highway project and Metrorail project soon.” he added.
To mark the day, BCL earlier chalked out a five-day programme. As per the scheduled programme the leaders and activists of the organization placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi road-32 at 6.30am and cut cake at 8.01am yesterday.
A colorful procession was also brought out from Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University at 12:30pm. The procession ended at the Bangabandhu Avenue after parading different city thoroughfares including Shahbagh, Matsy Bhaban, Kakrail and Bijoy Nagar intersections.
Besides, On January 5, voluntary blood donation campaign will be held on the premises of Bat-tala in front of Dhaka University Arts Faculty building at 10am. Winter cloths will be distributed among destitutes on the premises of Swoparjito Swadhinta sculpture on DU campus at 5pm on January 6.
A special photo-exhibition on “History and War of Liberation” will be held on the premises of Swoparjito Swadhinta.
