Awami League Joint Secretary General Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif has urged the chief election commission to verify the claims of BNP regarding polls code violation and then take proper actions.
The ruling party leader made the urge in a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Tuesday afternoon.
He claimed that one of their candidates in Rajshahi and two in Narayanganj were attacked over the rivalry of the election.
He also alleged that the Election Commission is being partial towards BNP in terms of municipality polls.
Hanif said: “The Election Commission is being partial towards BNP. They are behaving not cordial with Awami League and being kind towards BNP.
“Even the returning officers are talking less action against BNP candidates.”
The AL leader said: “There was no level playing field. As BNP is not in the parliament, their top leaders became a part of the campaign and sought votes for their candidates but many of us couldn't; because we are lawmakers.”
Anticipating that BNP will back out, he urged them to take part in the municipal polls as a democratic party.
Talking about the election, he however said that they expect the election to be fair.
