4 dormitories of Chittagong College closed sine die

The Chittagong Government College has turned into battle field as Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jamaat’s student wing Islami Chhattra Shibir clashed Wednesday, leaving at least five persons injured.

The college authority in an emergency academic council meeting chaired by Principal Professor Jesmin Akhtar, closed three dormitories for male and one dormitory for female sine die.

Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee was also formed following the fierce clash.

The male students were asked to vacate the dormitories-- Shaheed Suhrawardi Hostel and Sher-e-Bangla Hostel, Abdus Sabur Hostel by 8pm on Wednesday while the female students were asked to leave their Hazrat Khadizatul Kobra (RA) by 10am Thursday.

Witnesses and police sources said the clash broke out at the college campus when Shibir men allegedly opened fire targeting the BCL activists of college unit while holding a rally at the Shaheed Minar premises marking the victory day at around 12 noon.

Later the BCL activists took position outside the college compound and hurled brick chips on Shibir men leaving five persons injured, said the witnesses.

Being informed police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control dispersing the clashing BCL men and Shibir men.

Chawakbazar Police Station (OC) Aziz Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that police dispersed the clashing groups firing blanks shot and detained more than 50 persons from the clash spot suspecting their movement.
