Election campaign is gaining momentum at 10 municipalities in Chittagong as mayor and councilor aspirants are passing busy time at voters’ door to door seeking votes.
The aspirants are now distributing leaflets, holding rallies and conducting campaign through loudspeaker in a bid to demonstrate their strength.
A total of 449 mayor and councillor aspirants are vying at 10 municipalities slated for December 30. Of them, 34 are mayoral, 77 are in reserved seats for women and 338 are contesting as general councillor candidates.
The 10 municipalities where the polls are going to be held are Sandwip, Banshkhali, Chandanaish, Satkania, Mirsarai, Patiya, Raozan, Rangunia, Baryarhat and Sitakunda.
Meanwhile, BNP formed election monitoring cells at central and divisional levels to oversee the forthcoming municipal polls.
As per the decision of the party, district and upazila leaders will oversee the municipal polls in their respective areas and coordinate the central and divisional level monitoring cells.
Both BNP and Awami League have chalked out programme to motivate heir party men through conducting full-hearted election campaign. Several top central leaders of the BNP and the Awami League are scheduled to come to the district soon and conduct electioneering in favour of the candidates nominated by their parties.
