The ruling Awami League has announced to expel all its renegades in the upcoming municipality polls as the party's ultimatum for the withdrawal of their candidacy expired on Sunday.
The party's joint general secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif made the disclosure at a press conference held at the party president Sheikh Hasina's Dhanmondi office in the capital.
He said the rebels who are taking part in the election defying the party's order will be permanently expelled from the party after the next meeting of the working committee.
The AL leader said: “We have talked with them in all possible ways to revise their decision and issued ultimatum to be careful in party's strong stance about the rebels and as they defied the party's decision, we are going to take action against them.”
In the next meeting of working committee, the top body of the party, the expulsion will be finalised, he informed media.
Central leaders of the party, including Obaidul Quader, Dipu Moni, sat in a meeting to talk on the action against the renegades of the municipality election.
