At least seven activists of ruling party's student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), have been injured in a factional clash at Titumir College in the city.
The injured are Sohel, 26, Mahiuddin, 25, Abdul Aziz, 28, Billal Hossain,22, Mostafa, 20, Joy, 20, and Abu Bakar, 21. All of them are hailed from Brahmanbaria.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2pm and they left the hospital after treatment around 5pm.
Injured Abdul Aziz told the Dhaka Tribune that Akhi Hall unit's General Secretary Salman Mitra had an altercation over senior-junior issues and following the incident they attacked on them.
Meanwhile, a student of the college said the clash took place among Brahmanbaria and Gopalganj BCL groups of the college.
"Few days ago one of the students of Gopalganj slapped a Brahmanbaria student. Centering this, an altercation took place and that finally turned into a clash.
“It is all about establishing their power in the college."
Salauddin Ahmed, Officer-in-charge of Banani police station said the clash took place between two factions of BCL Titumir College unit in front of the information centre of the college over establishing supremacy on the campus around 12pm.
The situation was under their control and additional law enforcers were deployed on the campus to avert further untoward incident, the police official said.
Meanwhile, Titumir College BCL unit President Kazi Mirajul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the clash took place based on an altercation over senior-junior issue.
