The High Court has fixed November 24 to deliver its verdict on three petitions filed by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir seeking bail in three arson and vandalism cases.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khashruzzaman fixed the date on Monday.
Deputy Attorney General Fozlur Rahman Khan said: “The court has supposed to deliver its verdict on the pleas yesterday [November 22] and had asked the government to submit Fakhrul's medical report on the day of the verdict.”
However, he said the government submitted the report on Monday.
The deputy AG said: “The court will give it's verdict tomorrow [Tuesday].
On June 21, the High Court had granted ad interim bail to the BNP leader and issued separate three rules asking the government as to why he should not be granted regular bail in the cases.
The Supreme Court on July 13 gave him six weeks’ bail on medical ground. His bail was extended two times.
On November 2, the Appellate Division asked him to surrender before a trial court rejecting his plea of bail extension in those cases filed with Paltan police station on January 4, 5 and 6.
It also directed the High Court bench to hear and dispose of the rules in two weeks.
The next day, the Metropolitan Magistrate concerned had sent Fakhrul to jail on his surrender.
