A Gaibandha court yesterday granted bail to Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton in a vandalism case but rejected his bail petition in the attempted murder case.
It was the third time he was denied bail in the case filed over the shooting of a child last month at Sundarganj of the district. He was earlier denied bail in the cases on October 16 and 25.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Mainul Hassan Yusuf, also acting judge of Sundarganj Cognisance Court, rejected the bail petition, defence counsel Md Sirajul Islam Babu said.
The Sundarganj lawmaker was not produced before the court.
On October 2, eight-year-old Sourov, son of Sazu Miah of Gopalcharan village, was injured with stray bullets fired by Liton from his private arms at Sundarganj. Sourov’s father filed the case the following day.
The other case was filed by Hafizur Rahman of Uttor Shahbaz village under Sundarganj upazila for vandalising his house and looting valuables on October 2 night.
The Detective Branch of police arrested the ruling party lawmaker from his sister’s house at Uttara on October 14.
