Police yesterday have registered three cases accusing 235 persons in connection with assaulting on duty police personnel and recovery of arms from two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)-dominated dormitories on Monday after a bloody factional clash between two groups of the ruling part student wing.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) (investigation) Md Salauddin Chowhdury of Hathazari police station told the Dhaka Tribune that police filed three cases on Tuesday accusing 235 in connection with assaulting on police and recovery firearms and lethal weapons from Shahjalal and Shah Amanat dormitory at CU.
Hathazari police station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Manjur Ahmed filed the case in connection with police assault mentioning 55 BCL men’s names and 100 to 120 unnamed while SI Swapan Kuman Sarkar and SI Habibur Rahman filed two arms cases naming 5 persons each and 50 unnamed respectively.
Police arrested 38 BCL leaders and activists in police assault case while another BCL man, Abu Torab Porash was arrested in Shahjalal arms recovery case, said OC Salauddin. All the arrestees will be produced before the court in the evening, he added.
Meanwhile, CU authorities have formed a three-member probe committee following Monday’s clash to investigate the whole incident.
