The resignation of Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury would not affect the BNP, party's acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
Noting that the BNP is one of the major political parties that was in the power thrice, he said: “BNP is a democratic oraganisation. Everyone in the party has the right to resign. Exit of one man will not be a big loss for us as we still uphold the ideals of the party founder, Ziaur Rahman.”
The BNP spokesperson was talking to the reporters after offering Juma prayer at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.

After Chowdhury’s sudden retirement announcement on Thursday, several ruling party leaders said many more from the BNP would quit.
Criticising ruling party’s reaction in the issue, he said the Awami League leaders might say such things as they are the political opponent.
Earlier on Thursday, party’s vice-chairman and former diplomat Shamsher M Chowdhury resigned from the party.
Although Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury has stated health problems as the reason for his resignation, many ruling party leaders claimed that it happened because of BNP's internal conflict.
