14-party members to assist law enforcers during Durga Puja

The Awami League-led 14-party alliance yesterday said law enforcement personnel and alliance workers would jointly provide safety at this year’s Durga Puja which began today.

Public representatives of the ruling alliance, including members of parliament, have been asked to attend the festivities in their constituencies.

The assurance of security was made at a meeting between alliance central leaders and leaders of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi neighbourhood last night.

“Temples and idols have been destroyed in the past. This year everyone must be alert so that such things do not occur,” 14-party alliance spokesman Health Minister Mohammed Nasim said.

“Anybody who tries to cause trouble will face stern action,” Nasim, an Awami League presidium member, warned.
