Tarique, 38 others charged in Gazipur arson case

Police have submitted a charge sheet before a district court against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and 38 others in an arson case.

Among the other accused are Tarique's personal assistant Lutfur Rahman Badol and Gazipur City Corporation mayor's son Manjurul Ahsan Roni.

Gazipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Harun-ur Rashid disclosed the information in a press conference around 11am Tuesday.

The SP went on that the lawsuit's investigation officer and also Joydebpur police station SI Enamul Hoque found the involvement of the accused with an incident of arson in the district.

The law enforcers have already arrested 11 of the charge sheeted accused.

According to case briefing, local BNP activists torched a vehicle by hurling petrol in Monipur Khaspara area of the city on January 21 last year during the 20-party alliance called hartal.

In the incident, SI Dilip Chandra Sarker registered the case with Joydevpur police station naming 18 people and 40-45 unnamed in which finally the charge sheet was placed against 32 people, including Tarique.
