JCD president on 16-day remand

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan has been placed on 16-day remand in connection with eight violence cases filed with Paltan police station in the capital.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh passed the order when investigation officers of the cases produced the JCD chief before the court on completion of his eight-day remand in another cases, seeking 80 days’ remand for interrogation in the cases.

Defence counsel Md Sanaullah Miah filed separate bail petitions before the court seeking bail for Rajib but the court rejected the pleas after hearing.

On July 29, Rajib was also placed on 8-day remand in four cases filed with Paltan, Motijheel and Shahbagh police stations.

On July 19, law enforcers arrested Rajib and his five associates allegedly with 45 Yaba tablets from Lebukhali ferryghat in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district.

After his arrest, police filed a case against him and his associates with Dumki police station in Patuakhali under the Narcotics Control Act.

On July 21, a Patuakhali court sent Rajib and his associates to jail rejecting their bail prayers. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Central Jail on July 27.

Defence counsel Md Sanaullah Miah said Rajib has been facing at least 23 cases filed with different police stations in the capital on charges of violence during the BNP-led alliance blockade and anti-government programme from January to March.
