BNP questions inclusion of 15-17 year-olds in voter list

The BNP has expressed concerns over the inclusion of 15-17-year-olds in the voter list update.

“There is an ill-intent of the Election Commission behind including 15-17 year old citizens in the voter list, which is completely illegal,” Asaduzzaman Ripon, acting spokesperson of the party, told journalists at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the capital.

The BNP leader expressed his concern saying there might be a conspiracy to rig voting in the local government elections.

Terming the Election Commission (EC) a failed one, Ripon said: “The chief election commissioner and his associate commissioners should resign voluntarily for engaging in anti-constitutional activities.”

He said though it is supposed to be a routine activity of the EC to update the voter list, this commission has completely failed to carry out the duty earlier.
