Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, youth wing of the ruling Awami League, has suspended one of its city unit leaders, a day after he was caught red-handed while attempting to snatch tender documents at Rajuk.
A press release signed by Office Secretary Kazi Anisur Rahman yesterday said Md Gazi Mazharul Islam Gofran alias Gazi Gofran, 51, had been suspended for violating the party charters.
Gofran, Liberation War affairs secretary of the Dhaka city (south) unit, was suspended as per the decision of the central executive committee for his involvement in the snatching of tender documents, the statement said.
Elite police force Rapid Action Battalion personnel detained Mazhar and five others on Thursday afternoon. A case was filed against them with Motijheel police under the Speedy Trial Act.
A Dhaka court placed them on a one-day remand yesterday.
The other arrestees are Kazi Sohel Hossain, 28, Md Rasel, 29, Md Khairul Alam, 37, Md Mizanur Rahman, 56, and Md Selim, 51. Their affiliation with any political party could not be confirmed.
They were held by the RAB members for trying to snatch tender documents for Purbachal New Town Project from some Rajuk officials in Segunbagicha area.
