AL leaders ask Khaleda not to celebrate fake birthday on August 15

Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League Hasan Mahmud has requested BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to stop celebrating her birthday on the day of the anniversary of death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from this year.

“Though your [Khaleda] actual birthday is not on the National Mourning Day, August 15, you have been celebrating your fake birthday by cutting cakes on this day,” the former minister told a discussion at Shilpakala Academy in the capital yesterday.

“We hope that you will refrain from carrying out such deplorable activity from this year and seek apology to the nation for what you have done over the years.”

He also said the BNP should congratulate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for the country’s economic growth.

“Bangladesh is marching ahead under the capable and far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It is the achievement of Sheikh Hasina that the country has been elevated to a middle-income state,” he added.

Former state minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Huq Tuku was present at the meeting among others.
