Awami League will decide about the cancelation of Member of Parliament status of Latif Siddique according to party constitution, Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has said.
He said: "Party received the letter from election commission regarding the cancelation of the post of Syed Latif Siddique as a Member of Parliament.”
The party will take the decision in accordance to its constitution, he emphasised.
The Awami League (AL) leader also public administration minister made the comment while presiding a joint meeting between AL city unit and its associate's bodies at party’s Dhanmondi office on Tuesday, BSS reports.
EC sent letters after Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury wrote to resolve the complications concerning Siddique’s MP status.
On July 16, the election commission sent letters to the ruling party’s Tangail-4 MP Latif Siddique’s Tangail and Dhaka addresses and the Awami League general secretary’s office address for clear statements on the matter.
Former telecom minister Syed Latif Siddique was sacked from the cabinet last year for his controversial comment on Hajj. He was also expelled from the ruling party.
