Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the 66th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League.
Sheikh Hasina paid the homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital on Tuesday morning, reports BSS.
After laying the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence.
Flanked by senior leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party.
Later, Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 66th founding anniversary programmes of Bangladesh Awami League by hoisting national flag as well as releasing pigeons and balloons.
Awami League Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed and Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Obaidul Quader, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Advocate Sahara Khatun and Satish Chandra Roy, General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and other central leaders of the party were present.
