High Court: Admit Mirza Fakhrul Islam at BSMMU

The High Court yesterday ordered prison authorities to immediately admit Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the detained acting secretary general of the BNP, to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment.

The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order in response to a writ petition filed by Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum.

She filed the petition on Monday saying Fakhrul had been suffering from various diseases including diabetes and heart complications, and sought the court’s directives for admitting him to BSMMU or Birdem Hospital.

Mirza Fakhrul was detained from the National Press Club in Dhaka on January 5 and he was shown arrested in seven vandalism and arson-related cases, among which Fakhrul has secured bail in one. He is now at Kashimpur Jail 2 in Gazipur.
