The High Court has ordered jail authorities to admit BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for his treatment.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order on Tuesday afternoon, in response to a writ petition filed by Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum.
Rahat Ara Begum filed the petition with the HC mentioning that her husband was suffering from various diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart complications.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is now in Kashimpur jail in a case filed in connection with an arson attack in the capital’s Paltan on January 5.
He was arrested on January 6 immediately after he had stepped out of the National Press Club. Fakhrul had been at the Press Club since he attended a programme organised by a pro-BNP professionals’ organisation on January 5.
