Nizam Ul Azim, a councillor from ward no 21, has been made the acting mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) following the suspension of the mayor.
RCC Public Relations Officer Amirul Karim confirmed the appointment to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
The order issued by the Local Government Ministry reached the RCC office Monday evening, despite the High Court on May 28 staying the suspension order for a month.
On May 7, mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul was suspended as a district court accepted charge sheets against him in several cases, including the police constable Siddhartha Sarker murder case.
On May 28, responding to a petition, a High Court bench issued a ruling asking why the suspension order of mayor Bulbul would not be declared illegal.
