Charge sheet against Khaleda in arson case

Detective Branch of Police has submitted a charge-sheet against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others in the case of arson in the capital’s Jatrabari area in January this year.

Investigation officer of the case, sub-inspector Zahidul Islam of Detective Branch of police submitted the charge sheet with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on Tuesday, 13 days after the detectives submitted two charg sheets against the BNP chief in another case filed over the same incident.

On January 23, a group of miscreants hurled petrol bombs on a passenger bus of Glory Paribahan on Demra Road in Katherpool area during the nationwide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

At least 28 people received burns in the incident. On February 1, a victim, Nur Alam, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Two cases were filed on the following day. The cases were later transferred to the detectives.

Tuesday's charge sheet was submitted in the case filed under Special Powers Act.

Earlier on May 6, the DB police submitted two charge sheets—one for murder and another for explosions charges--against Khaleda and the 37 people over the same incident.
