After BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed resurfaced, the Awami League-led 14-party alliance yesterday said the BNP was a party that was used to telling lies.
They said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had kept telling lies soon after the disappearance of Salahuddin.
Emerging out of a 14-party meeting, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said, according to media reports, a conversation between Salahuddin and his wife Hasina proved that BNP and also its chief Khaleda Zia told lies.
Nasim made the statements in reply to a question made by journalists at a 14-party press conference.
The press briefing was held after the alliance held the meeting at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital yesterday.
Earlier Khaleda Zia claimed Salahuddin was in RAB custody while Salahuddin’s wife said her husband was picked up by law enforcers from their home.
But now all these claims by the BNP have been proved false, Nasim said.
Denouncing police action on Bangladesh Chhatra Union activists, the 14-party spokesperson said the alliance does not support such police excesses.
The 14-party condemned the attacks on Chhatra Union activists. “We don’t support such attacks. A probe committee has been formed. We hope the culprits will be identified and punished after an investigation.”
Nasim, also presidium member of the Awami League, said the 14-party alliance would accord a reception to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the passage of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) bill in the Indian parliament.
Nasim said the 14-party expressed satisfaction over the unanimous ratification of the LBA by the Indian Parliament, and thanked the Indian Prime Minister, West Bengal chief minister and people of all strata in India.
The meeting observed that the victories of Bangladesh-origin Tulip Siddique, Rushnara Ali and Rupa Haque in the UK parliamentary polls enhanced the pride of the Bangalis.
Presided over by Workers’ Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, the meeting was attended by Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman and Minister for Environment and Forest Anowar Hossain Manju, JSD President and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and other leaders of the 14-party alliance.
