Detective Branch (DB) of police has submitted a charge sheet against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case filed over vandalism in the capital.
DB inspector Md Enamul Haque, also investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court against the accused in the case.
BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshar Chandra Roy, joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman and its leaders Moazzam Hossain Alal, Saiful Alam Nirob, Habib-un-Nabi khan Sohel, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Azizul Bari Helal, Shafiul Bari Babu, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, SM Jahangir, Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Habibur Rashid Habib, Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Juwel, Ishak Sarkar, Mamun Hossain, Enamul Haque and Humayun Kabir, among others, were also charge-sheeted in the case.
According to the charge sheet, the charges were pressed before the court against the BNP men on charges of blasting cocktails, vandalising and torching vehicles, and attacking police at the Shantinagar-Malibagh (in front of Twin Tower) area during a procession in the capital on March 2, 2013.
The IO also mentioned 35 people in the charge-sheet as prosecution witnesses in the case.
Confirming about the charge sheet, Aminur Rahman, General recording officer (GRO) of Dhaka CMM court said: “The charge sheet would be produced before the court on June 6 for taking the next steps in the case.”
Sub-inspector Habibur Rahman filed the case with Paltan police station on charges of blasting cocktails, vandalising and torching vehicles, and attacking police at the Shantinagar area during a procession in the capital on March 2, 2013.
According to the case documents, the case filed mentions 26 names of BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul, Moudud Ahmed, Amanullah Aman and 1,000 to 1,200 undefined BNP men.
Following the attack by the BNP men, a policeman named Nazmul Hossain was injured.
The BNP activists were also trying to prevent vehicular movement on the roads during their procession, which was brought out after a rally was held in front of the BNP Nayapaltan office on the day.
