BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday expressed concern over rule of law in the country.
She wondered if any rule of law was really in place. “Nobody is accountable to anyone and nobody takes any responsibility.”
“If a state and its administration can remain silent after the disappearance of an important leader like Salahuddin Ahmed then where is the security of the common citizens?” she questioned.
She said this in a press release signed by party spokesperson Asaduzzzaman Ripon.
The BNP chairperson demanded the immediate return of Salahuddin to his family members, and ensuring security, safety, and rights to justice for all citizens.
She demanded restoration of the rule of law and institutional norms in every sphere of life.
BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed has been missing for the last two months.
His family members alleged that law enforcers picked him up from a house of the capital’s Uttara area.
The law enforcers, however, have repeatedly denied the allegation.
Khaleda alleged that law enforcers picked up many BNP leaders, including Ilyas Ali, Chowdhury Alam and Saiful Islam Hiru who have never returned.
“The relatives of those leaders are deeply concerned. They do not know whether their loved ones have become victims of extrajudicial killings,” the release said.
She also alleged that Salahuddin’s wife went to the police station to lodge a case, but the police did not register the case, and filed a general diary instead.
