Noted children’s author and Channel i’s head of programs, Amirul Islam, passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle with kidney complications.
He took his last breath at 1:07am while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. He was 62.
Amirul Islam had been admitted to hospital on August 13 after falling critically ill with kidney-related complications. As his condition deteriorated, he was placed on life support around 3am on Sunday, reports Channel i.
Born on April 7, 1964, in Dhaka’s Lalbagh, Amirul Islam had a long career in literature, writing stories, rhymes, poems and other creative works for children. He authored more than 200 books, most of which were children’s literature.
In recognition of his contribution to children’s literature, he received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2006. He also received several other major awards and honours at home and abroad.
Alongside his literary career, he had extensive experience in program production, planning and management and played an important role in various Channel i programs and cultural initiatives.
