National Award-winning filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan passes away

National Film Award-winning director Zahidur Rahim Anjan passed away on Monday at 8:30pm in Bengaluru, India.

He was 60 years old.

The news of his passing was confirmed to UNB by his younger brother, Sazzadur Rahim.

Anjan had traveled to India four months ago for a liver transplant and had been undergoing treatment at Sparsh Hospital in Bengaluru since January 2025 due to long-standing liver complications.

The surgery was performed on February 19, 2025, but post-operative complications led to a deterioration in his condition.

Despite being placed on life support, he eventually passed away.

Sazzadur Rahim mentioned that the family has been in contact with cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and completing all formalities may take two to three days.

Zahidur Rahim Anjan was the son of language movement activist Mizanur Rahim.

Anjan gained recognition with his debut film "Meghmollar", which earned him "Best Director" and "Best Dialogue Writer" awards at the National Film Awards.

His latest project, "Chander Omaborshya", was delayed due to illness, though he had planned its release soon.

Anjan, a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India and a faculty member at Stamford University, was a prominent figure in Bangladesh's film industry.

An active figure in Bangladesh's film movement, he served as the former president of the Short Film Forum and contributed significantly to the country's independent cinema scene.

His passing has deeply impacted the film community.

His colleagues and admirers in the film industry took to social media to express their grief and share memories, following the news of his demise.

Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Directors Amitabh Reza, Gias Uddin Selim, and Akram Khan are among those who paid tribute to the late filmmaker.
