41st death anniversary of General MAG Osmani observed on Sunday

The 41st death anniversary of General MAG Osmani, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces during the War of Liberation, was observed on Sunday.

To mark the occasion, the 17th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army paid tribute to General Osmani by placing wreaths at his grave at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Dargah in Sylhet.

Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman, general officer commanding (GOC) of the 17th Infantry Division and Sylhet Area Commander, led the tribute to the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.

Following this, a ceremonial guard of honor was presented by a contingent of the Bangladesh Army.

A special prayer was also held on the premises, seeking eternal peace for General Osmani’s soul and the welfare of the country and its people.

Senior military officers from the Sylhet region, members of various ranks of the armed forces, and local dignitaries were present at the event.

General Osmani was born on September 1, 1918, in Sunamganj, then part of Assam Province under British rule.

He passed away in London on February 16, 1984.

He received his early education in Assam and Sylhet before graduating from Aligarh Muslim University in India.
