HSC result brings tears as family mourns student killed in July revolution

Nafisa Hossain Marwa, the only female martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement from Savar, was killed during the protest on August 5, and as HSC exam results are released, her family mourns her absence, remembering her dreams of becoming a photographer or graphic designer.

Speaking from her uncle’s home in the Namabazar area of Savar, her family shared their memories of Nafisa.

The eldest daughter of Abul Hossain and Kulsum Begum, Nafisa was originally from Shariatpur but lived in Tongi due to her father's job.

After finishing school, she enrolled in college in Savar while her mother worked abroad to support the family, leading Nafisa to spend much of her time at her uncle's house.

Nafisa, a student of Shahjahanpur Model Higher Secondary School, achieved a GPA of 4.25 in HSC from the science division.

With tears in her eyes, her mother, Kulsum Begum, expressed her grief, recalling Nafisa's dreams. "She wanted to become a photographer or graphic designer. We had planned to buy her a laptop when her results came out. Nafisa dreamed of buying land and building a house with her own earnings and mine."

Her younger uncle, Hazrat Ali Reza, described Nafisa as headstrong and beloved. She actively participated in protests alongside Jahangirnagar University students starting August 3.

Tragically, on August 5, she was shot while protesting in Savar. Following her father's wishes, she was buried in Tongi.

On that fateful day, around 3pm, Nafisa was shot during the protests at Mukti Mor in Savar.

Her family reported that the bullet struck her chest and exited through her back, marking a heartbreaking loss for her family and the movement.
