The 43nd death anniversary of Bangladesh’s first ever posthumous eye donor, ARM Inamul Haq, will be observed on Wednesday, November 11.
Three years before his death, Inamul Haq donated his eyes which were transplanted to Shahadat Chowdhury, editor of Saptahik 2000, and one Ramzan Ali.
Born in Rajkhola of Howrah district in West Bengal on October 1, 1921, Inamul Haq got an engineering degree with distinction in 1946.

After the partition of India in 1947, he joined Ahsanullah Engineering College (now Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-Buet) as a teacher and went on to establish Dhanmandi Boys Club (now Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club). He was a founder member of the Diabetic Association and Geriatric Society.
Fluent in four languages, Inamul Haq was deeply passionate about uplifting humankind in three key areas: Education, Food, and Housing. He was a man of vision, of social change, and believed in gender equality.
He passed away on November 11, 1977.
