PM Hasina receives Global Women's Leadership Award

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the Global Women’s Leadership Award at an annual international gathering of women influencers and opinion leaders in Sydney, Australia, on Friday. The Global Summit of Women focuses on women's advancement in the global economy and has been connecting women worldwide for 27 years. PM Hasina was honoured by the 2018 event for her “outstanding leadership in advancing women education and women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh, Asia and the Asia-pacific region”.

The president of the summit, Irene Natividad, presented Hasina with the lifetime achievement honour at a gala dinner held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Friday evening (local time). Several thousand women delegates, who came from all over the world to attend the three-day gathering, stood up to show respect to the prime minister when she received the award. The event began with a short video introduction to Hasina, her life, and her contributions to women empowerment. This included policies and measures taken by her government in this regard, as well as the economic development of Bangladesh under her administration.

In accepting the award, Hasina gave a speech in which she highlighted the importance of women empowerment, equal rights, bringing women into the mainstream of development, and achievements made so far in Bangladesh. She called for forging an alliance to support and uphold the rights of millions of women in need around the world.

Together, we must act on our shared culture, tradition and values to benefit millions of women in need,” she said. “Let's mobilize our strength... I particularly count on all of you." She also placed a four-point proposal to improve the existing condition of women around the world.
