A parliamentary committee has recommended hiring two to three consultants to help restructure the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat and establish a separate Bangladesh Parliamentary Service.
The recommendation was made at the committee’s second meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal.
The meeting was informed that recruitment is underway to fill 171 vacant posts in the Parliament Secretariat, with the process expected to be completed as soon as possible.
Of the posts, 16 in the first and second grades will be filled through the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), while the Parliament Secretariat will directly recruit for the remaining 155 posts in grades 11 to 20.
The committee also suggested consulting the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on appointing the consultants.
At the beginning of the meeting, members confirmed the minutes of the committee’s first meeting, subject to amendments.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Whip M Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, and MPs Kazi Rafiqul Islam, Md Selim Reza and Mosammat Shammi Akter attended the meeting.
Relevant officials of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were also present.
