BNP reserved-seat MP Ferdousi Ahmed Misty has resigned, leaving her parliamentary seat vacant, according to a notification issued by the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday.
The notification, issued by the Law Drafting Branch-2 of the Legislative Support Wing, said Misty’s resignation took effect on Thursday, leaving parliamentary seat No 323 vacant under Article 67(2) of the Constitution.
Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan signed the notification.
Copies were sent to the Cabinet Division, Election Commission Secretariat and other relevant offices for necessary action.
Under Rule 177 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, a lawmaker wishing to resign must submit a written resignation addressed to the Speaker and signed by the member. The resignation takes effect and the seat becomes vacant once the letter reaches the Speaker, in accordance with Article 67(2) of the Constitution.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Misty submitted her resignation letter to the Speaker.
The resignation came after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed her to step down following allegations of her involvement in an attack and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, Dhaka.
She subsequently went to Parliament and submitted her resignation letter.
