Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood has said that the government is considering revising the power purchase agreement signed in 2017 with Adani Group.
He made the remarks in a written response to a question from MP Shahjahan Chowdhury during the question-and-answer session of the 13th Parliament on Thursday. The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Responding to the query, the minister said the agreement had been reviewed during the interim government period by a national committee led by a retired Supreme Court justice.
The committee included experts in power and energy, legal affairs, economics and chartered accountancy. Upon review, it found that the previous Awami League government had signed the deal at an unusually high price compared to both domestic and international market rates.
He also said the government was considering two options to amend the agreement: resolving the matter through international arbitration or renegotiating the contract directly with Adani Power.
