The cabinet has approved in principle the draft of a law keeping a provision of merging Dhaka Children Hospital and Bangladesh Institute of Child Health for providing better treatment facilities to children.
The approval came at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Prime Minister’s Office Monday morning, reports BSS.
“The cabinet approved in principle the draft of “Bangladesh Children Hospital and Institute Act, 2020” in accordance with the “Dhaka Children Hospital Ordinance, 2008,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told a press briefing at Bangladesh Secretariat following the meeting.
He added that the draft had proposed a provision of merging Dhaka Children Hospital and Bangladesh Institute of Child Health as a way of ensuring better healthcare services for children.
He stated that the draft law comprising 21 sections had recommended the formation of a 12-member board of directors to administer the hospital as an autonomous body.
A director of the hospital would be the executive officer of the hospital while each director would be appointed for three years, he said.
Anwarul also said that to implement the law accordingly the government would formulate the necessary rules through gazette notification.
He stated that the cabinet had also approved the draft of the agreement to be signed between Bangladesh and Greece regarding assistance in education and culture, adding: “Bangladesh has already signed agreements with 44 countries on cultural assistance aimed at enhancing cultural ties among the countries.”
Replying to a query, the cabinet secretary said the Korean government wanted to provide newer technology — having the capacity of screening any kind of viruses — to Bangladesh as a goodwill gesture.
He added that the technology would be installed at every airport in addition to the existing equipment as part of preventive measures to detect passengers for coronavirus.
“But the Korean government is yet to make an approach in written form. After getting a formal letter, we will inform you (media) of the matter,” he said.
